This is us performing as the main act at The Hollywood Bowl.
From stage right:
Don Holst – bass singer who went on to appear on “ HEE HAW“ TV Show.
Eddie Rathbun – music Director of Glen Yarbarrough (sp) and The Lime Lighters as well as the leader of The Christys when I joined in 1980.
Rebecca Hutton, who went on to sing with Cristopher Cross on some of his recordings and was The Black Velvet Billboard lady of 1980.
Mark Elliot is next to her and left “The Los Angeles Light Opera Company” to join us as a member.
To his left is Patti Cohenour who was the lead in New York’s Broadway production, “The Phantom of the Opera” appearing with Michael Crawford after Sarah Brightman had to leave the show due to recurrent vocal problems.
Patti rejoined the group in 1980 and later went back to broadway in the aforementioned role. She worked on Broadway for the next 30 years and was nominated in one of her shows for a Tony.
The next guy is me (David Moyer.)
The Hollywood Bowl Crowd of about 12,500 was the largest I ever sang for at that time.
I was hired as the lead male vocalist and sang the lead in The Christys most famous song, written by the original leader, Randy Sparks.
The crowds response: clapping and shouting lasted for about 2 to 3 minutes – I was moved to tears and sobbing.
The leader Eddie Rathbun assured everyone that, “David will be rejoining us as soon as he composes himself.” To this day I have rarely had that kind of audience response.
The last one on the left is Denny Ferris – a music major from Oklahoma. He sang baritone and played a “killer “ upright acoustic bass.
